Barefoot Adventures
Barefoot Adventures at Havelock Island is the Andaman Islands first and only dedicated Eco and Adventure Tourism operator. Our itineraries range from half day trips to overnight camping trips and bespoke multi-day archipelago exploration excursions. Itineraries may include some or all of the following activities: snorkeling off shore or over mid-sea reefs, kayaking through mangroves or between islands, trekking through villages and forests, exploring other islands and near-virgin beaches, fishing, ‘herping’ or birdwatching.
Accommodation is available to suit all budgets. For those who wish to retire overnight in luxury, we offer our flagship resort “Barefoot at Havelock, Jungle Resort”, located dramatically in the forest adjoining Havelock’s famous Beach No.7, endorsed by Time Magazine as the Best Beach in Asia. For those on more of a budget, we also have mid-range and budget accommodation attached to our dive center at Beach No.3 or, if you wish to reside along with our friendly boat and eco tour crew who are all members of the Indian domiciled Burmese-Karen tribe, we also offer budget accommodation at our eco tour base by the jetty at Beach No.1. For overnight camping excursions, we provide dome tents with ground sheets and roll out mats.
Barefoot Adventures, established in 2005, has a fleet of two motor launches, four native wooden motor-powered dunghies, two inflatables with outboards, and more than 30 sea kayaks including specialty kayaks such as glass bottom and sail kayaks.
Shunning manicured experiences, or sterlised, packaged and diluted adventure trips popular in some parts of the world, we at Barefoot Adventures prefer to keep the experience as ‘real’ as possible. The Karen tribe have traditionally earned their living from forest and sea and our boys are no different. Poachers turned gamekeepers, our 40-member strong eco-tour and boat crew have turned their skills away from bagging protected species for food or profit and now earn their living from showcasing forest and marine wealth instead, albeit on their own terms. This much can be said – no two trips are the same and the small surprises are what make each trip so unique and worthwhile.
